23 Tons of Nickels. Blessing... or Curse?

So let's get this out of the way first.  I don't blog.  It's blogging hard work ("blog" is the new "smurf" after all), and I don't expect a new entry anytime soon.  I had thought that Spencer would have picked up this topic on his own blog, but I just checked and it looks like it's open season.

So... what the heck would you do if you "found" 23 tons of nickels?  I mean if you just walked outside your house and there was a truckload of it just sitting there.

If you need the conversion breakdown 23 tons of nickels is 3.6 million nickels, sitting in 900 bags totaling about $180,000.  Let me say that again... THREE POINT SIX MILLION NICKELS!!!  I have to believe that it could take 20 lifetimes to properly launder that kind of coin and not draw too much attention from your local arcade/Laundromat

Well, according to this article (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6826757), someone went out and got them all those nickels.  The article is a little old (but I remember reading it back in January), so I don't know if they ever did find the guy who stole it.  But C'mon... this is pretty ridiculous.

What would you do with 3.6 million nickels?

Here are a few ideas I’ve come up with.

    1. If I lived near a casino I'd be hitting the slots (OK, that’s an obvious one)
    2. You could wish to “make it all the way with Andy” if you ever find that wishing well in Goonies
    3. Have you ever seen those funnel shaped charity bins in the mall where you slip a coin in it and watch it spin around and around on its edge until it reaches the hole at the bottom (where the contents of the bin would be collected for charity)?  Well... you could TOTALLY own that thing in the mall
    4. Even better on #3, there'd be no one from stopping you from picking up the coin before it even fell into the bottom so you wouldn't loose a thing (but you'd still have 3.6 million coins to figure out what to do with)
    5. You could melt it down and cast a statue in your likeness (but I think that's a federal crime -- you know, for destroying money)
    6. Hahah (this one's pretty bad), growing up in Hawaii I "knew some people" who would drive down to Hotel Street late at night and throw pennies at people.  You'd have a limitless supply of ammunition (I'm not even going to bother telling you who walks around Hotel Street at night)

    Blogging is HARD work....

And I'm a lazy bastard... So what the heck were you expecting?

But hey, at least I got my taxes filed!

Like a Lemming to the Flame

    ... or something

I've joined in on the bandwagon and bought the same phone that half the people who work in my building already own.  Was it just too good to pass up, or did I just want to be like everyone else, or was I simply afraid of blending in and wanted to find a niche to fit in with my co-workers?... hmmm..

Nah!  The way I see it, it's a cool phone, the price was reasonable, and if I ever have questions on how to do something with it I'll never run out of people to ask about it.  So given all these facts, why the heck not?  The bandwagon is nice and cozy, jump on in.

BTW - that phone would be the Audiovox SMT 5600
